HISTORY OF SUNRISE, FSP
In 1998, Greg Baron was serving in the US Navy, stationed at Naval Air Station, Kingsville Texas, when he was driving on Highway 77 on a day off. Near the town of Bishop, Texas, he came across a car crash with injuries. Being a Hospital Corpsman and a National Registry EMT, he stopped and began to help the injured, as no emergency services had arrived yet. When EMS arrived, the Paramedics saw Greg working and after the injured had been seen to, began a conversation. One of the Paramedics was Sam Kimbrell. That conversation led to Greg working part time for the EMS service which was managed by Sam. Greg worked for Sam until he completed his military service in 2000. The two lost touch after Greg left the Navy.
Fast forward 20 years, Greg was a Patrol Sergeant for Beeville Police Department when he had stopped at the Bee County Jail and to his surprise, there was Sam, who was now working for a private contractor that provided extradition service. They exchanged their current information and went on with their jobs.
The following year, Greg left law enforcement and decided to reach out to Sam and by the end of that day, the two were working together for the same private contractor.
After about a year of working together, Greg and Sam realized that the industry could be refined and expanded and had long discussions about the future. They began the “Dream”. As time went on, it began to make more and more sense to seriously consider branching off together and look for the first steps to making that dream a reality.
Melissa Riley, who was the Chief Operations Officer for a global corporation, grew up with Greg in their home town in New York and they have been life long friends since more or less infancy. Melissa had been trying to recruit Greg into her company, but Greg was not enthusiastic about the possibility of moving back to New York. As time went on, Greg shared the dream that he and Sam were developing with her and Melissa was enamored with the concept. She very enthusiastically offered her corporate experience and knowledge to the concept and before they knew it, Sam, Greg and Melissa had formed a team. With the 3 of them working together, each bringing their specific skills and experience, they formed a new corporation and on July 31, 2023, Sunrise-FSP was incorporated with Sam as the majority partner.
By mid September, Sunrise, FSP secured the DBA for United States Prisoner Transport. On October 4. 2023, USPT began operation. On October 5, 2023, USPT received the very first contract and the first offender was moved. Within 8 days of being open, USPT had received service agreements with 7 counties. That number rapidly grew and by the end of October, USPT was providing full time extradition service to 14 counties, with teams traveling to all parts of the United States.
